CU students in the midst of studying for midterms and writing papers that all seem to be due at once are in dire need of some relaxation time. Here are a couple of happy hours around town that may interest the weary wanting to spend their free time with a cold beverage in hand.
The Dark Horse Bar, located close to campus at 2922 Baseline Rd., has been a favorite student hangout for 31 years. It’s a great place to find a greasy burger, excellent wings and a nice cold beer. The Dark Horse has its happy hour every weekday from 4 to 8 p.m. and offers two-for-one well drinks, $2 to $3 pints of beer, dollar-off pitchers and half-off appetizers.
The Dark Horse also offers activities like tricycle racing and live music most nights of the week and drink specials on game days.
The student with a yearning for seafood with their beer might want to try the happy hour at Jax Fish House, located at 928 Pearl St. From 4 to 6 p.m., students can shoot 75-cent oysters and chase them with $2 microbrews. Jax also offers many specialty drinks and items like coconut shrimp.
The Lazy Dog Sports Bar & Grill, located at 1346 Pearl St., offers a happy hour for sports fans. From 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, the Lazy Dog offers 35-cent wings, $2 beers, $3 wells and $4 wines. They also offer deals on burgers and a few other meals. The bar and restaurant are adorned with televisions for every possible viewing space, providing enough sports games to please even the most obsessed sports buff.
Farther east at 1535 Pearl St. sits the Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery, where the beer is handcrafted on site. Students can enjoy $2 pints of award-winning beer from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 p.m. to close on Saturday, and 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday. This pub, along with its sister pub the Southern Sun in south Boulder, are hippie hangouts with great live music and bluegrass picks on certain nights.
These are just a few of the countless happy hours around town, and there are many more to be explored. May these escapes inspire the stressed-out college student to get out, grab a beer and relax.
