Cranny’s replacement still unknown
Wardenburg director Robert Cranny resigned on Oct. 10 to pursue a private medical practice.
Cranny has been the director of the CU health center for the last six years and employed by the university for 12 years.
Cranny said his decision to leave was difficult but one he felt he needed to make. He will be working full-time with his wife in their private physical therapy business.
He also wants to spend more time with his family, he said. Cranny has three girls, ages 4, 8 and 10. He said he can have a more active role in his children’s lives if he works at home.
Before coming to CU, Cranny was the director of Long Beach Sports Medicine in Long Beach, Calif. Prior to that, he was a physical therapist at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center in Downey, Calif., and also worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet, Ill. He attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisc., where he received a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy.
“I love CU, love the students, love all the people who work at Wardenburg,” Cranny said. “Wardenburg will continue to be an excellent place for students.”
Wardenburg staff members said they regret seeing Cranny go.
“I’m disappointed to see him leave,” said Matthew Ward, who works in financial services. “Under Bob’s tenure we have made great strides improving the health center.”
A replacement director has not been appointed. Cranny himself was the interim director for 16 months prior to being appointed director.
“It is always difficult when someone leaves,” said Rudolfo Landin, an accountant at Wardenburg. “We will have the opportunity to grow in a different way.”
Cranny said he will leave at the end of October or beginning of November.
“He ran the health center very well,” said Josh Kowlowski, a senior biochemistry major who works in the Apothecary at Wardenburg. “It is sad to see him go.”
