Authors pull proposal today and announce plans for a new version
The bill written by two CU students proposing that UCSU support gubernatorial candidate Bill Ritter was pulled early Thursday.
Students and authors of the bill, Veronica Lingo and Trevor Martin, were in favor of standing by the Colorado Democrat because of his support of higher education.
The authors are planning for the latest version of the bill to remove Ritter’s name and instead ask gubernatorial candidates to acknowledge UCSU’s support for state funding of higher education.
Lingo, the journalism school senator and media studies major, and Martin, a former UCSU member and media studies and business student, decided to pull the bill after they realized that it “put too much pressure on CU and on the students,” Martin said.
The issue was controversial from the get go as many felt that a decision to support candidates in a state election seems overreacing for a student governemnt.
Many students believed that the bill would divide CU students among political party lines.
