Cox enters game, only to be removed shortly thereafter
After CSU’s punt, the Buffs gave the ball right back by going three-and-out themselves after a 3-yard carry by Mel Holliday, a 4-yard catch by sophomore Patrick Williams, and a tipped pass intended for junior Alvin Barnett.
CSU’s next possession garnered them their initial first down of the game after two running plays and a 4-yard pass to halfback Kory Sperry. A 14-yard completion to Johnny Walker got them their second first down. On the next set of downs, a third-down wide receiver stop pattern by Ram wide receiver Luke Roberts netted the Rams another first down as they moved to the Buffs’ 30. A 27-yard pass to Walker and a Hanie 3-yard option run to the end zone later, the Rams tied the score 7-7 with 1:41 left in the 1st quarter. The scoring drive lasted nine plays and 71 yards, and took 3:46 off the clock.
The quarter ended with Cox going into the game, calling timeout, and then Jackson re-entering the game only to be sacked and forcing the Buffs to punt to start the 2nd quarter.
