Jenny Lewis rocks The Fox
Singer/songwriter Jenny Lewis is coming to The Fox Theatre to promote new material from her upcoming solo album Tuesday night.
She will perform alongside Whispertown2000 and Jonathan Wilson. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. and the show will start at 9:00 p.m.
“This is her first solo visit to the Fox. We are expecting a good turn out but tickets are still available,” said Shauna Murray, Fox Theatre publicist.
Jenny Lewis is the primary vocalist and founding member of the Indie rock band Rilo Kiley and has worked with many popular Indie rock artists such as Conor Oberst from Bright Eyes and Ben Gibbard from Death Cab for Cutie. She has also had a successful but lesser known career as a solo artist. Since Rilo Kiley’s release of its latest album “Under the Blacklight” she has been working on her second solo album “Acid Tongue.”
Many students are eager to see what Lewis has to offer.
“I’m a fan of Rilo Kiley and I’m looking forward to seeing her solo album,” said Liza Kubik, a freshman student and open-option major.
The album is expected to hit stores Sept. 23 with featured artists such as Elvis Costello and Zooey Deschanel.
The audience is likely going to hear some songs from her first album “Rabbit Fur Coat,” but should expect an emphasis on material from her newest album. A preview of the single “Acid Tongue” is available through her MySpace page and other online sources. Lewis maintains a style very similar to her first solo album. Soulful vocals and gentle, melodic guitar are the basis of this song. There is a bit of twang in her voice and a background harmony resonant of gospel music.
Since the concert is likely to be based on her newest album, people can get taste of her new songs.
“I’ve heard her newest single and I’m excited to hear the rest when it comes out,” said Leslie Martin, a sophomore open-option major.
To learn more about Jenny Lewis and what to expect from the concert, listen to “Melt Your Heart” and “The Charging Sky,” which are both available through iTunes.
Tickets to the show are still available and can be purchased at http://www.foxtheatre.com/Ticketing/OrderFlow.aspx?p=OrderChooseShow.
